Back before C.D. Sherwood or Byron Gager there was a young man named George Washington Garner Sr. (who was my great, great, great, great grandfather) and newly wed bride of less than one year left there North Carolina home for a new life in the Tennesse hills, settling down in Lost Cove of Crow Creek Valley. George and his young wife Jennie Hendricks had eight children, five boys (Henry, Tom, John, Larkin B. who was my great, great, great grandfather, and George W. Jr.) and three girls (Rebecca, Peggy, and Nicie.) Back in the days when it was called Catchings Station after Meridith Catchings Jr. the station master of the railroad there at that time, Meridith`s daughter Sarah, better known as "Sallie" married Larkin B. and had eight children of there own. They had four boys (Meredith who was my great, great grandfather George, Taylor, and Andy R.) and four girls (Elizabeth Betty, Nancy J., Dolly, and Mary J.). Meredith was born Jan. 1843 and was twenty years of age at the time of the Civil War but no records show of him ever serving in it. He married Miss Francis A. and nine children of there own, seven boys (Taylor who was my great grandfather, Billie C., John R.,Larkin M.,James, Harvey, and Walter who ran the Garner Store across the road from the current Post Office.) and two girls (Ada, and Lucy). Taylor was born Sep. 20 1871 in Lost Cove. Taylor met and married Etta R. Collins on Dec. 03 1891 having seven children of there own with Dilbert M., Jim, Walter, Lawrence B. who was my grandfather, Damon, Vernie F., and Aubrey. Lawrence B. married Hulda Fowles and had eleven children of there. Lawrence Edward Garner Sr. who is there oldest son is my father. Though many Garner`s claim to be "NOT RELATED" , if you came from Lost Cove , Catchings Station, Crow Creek Valley, or just plain old Sherwood no matter what your name is whether it be Garner, Barnes, Lynch or one of the many proud names of any of the people who called and still call this special little corner of God`s world their home, we are all related one way or another somewhere down the line.
