Epiphany Mission Sherwood

Epiphany Mission today

"Nestled in a scenic valley of the southern Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee in the small community of Sherwood is Epiphany Mission Episcopal Church. People from across the country would visit the little stone church and its walled garden with pools, bricked walkways, multitude of flowers, and open-air chapel." -- The Episcopal Church and Visual Arts website.

Fr. Jones

One of the most revered and loved figures in Epiphany's history is Fr. George W. Jones, who came to Sherwood in 1929.

For nearly 20 years, Fr. Jones wrote a small pamphlet-size publication called simply "The Booklet." In it he chronicled the struggles, heartaches, and triumphs of the people of Sherwood.

Fr. Jones' successors continued publishing "The Booklet" for 20 years after his death. The last one was published in 1972.

The sandstone church was built in 1928.
It burned the wednesday after easter 1960.
