Sherwood To Get Naval Craft Souvenir From British
Consul-General Next Month
"A project that at first glance seems out
of kilter with the eternal fitness of things may materialize into
one of the most momentous events ever staged at Sherwood.
"Plans were tossed into the hopper this week
for ceremonies attendant to acceptance --- of all things -- the
badge of a destroyer!"

August 1950
Letter To: Duff Creason, postmaster at Sherwood
From: D. MacDermot, British Consul General, New Orleans, La.
I have to acknowledge with thanks your letter
of July 7 informing me that you would be glad to receive from me,
on behalf of the Admiralty, the presentation to Sherwood of the
badge of H.M.S. "Sherwood" (formerly U.S.S. "Rodgers),
one of the American destroyers presented to Great Britain by you
Government in 1940, in recognition of the great service which these
ships performed in the Allied cause and of the ties which unite
our two countries. I feel that it would be particularly appropriate
that this presentation should be made to your post of the American
Legion and am very pleased at your kind response.
If convenient with you, I would propose
to come to Sherwood in order to make the presentation on Thursday,
Sept. 14, and would be grateful if you would advise me whether the
morning or the afternoon would be most convenient.
